Director of electrical systems engineering

DI is seeking a director-level engineer to manage and grow our electrical systems engineering staff to ensure the successful implementation of all electrical programs. Ideal candidates are talented, innovative and hard-working individuals who prefer to work at a faster pace in an environment where they see a mix of department management, project management, and hands-on design work.

Responsibilities

  • Management of electrical systems engineering staff in the design and development of new consumer, industrial, and medical products.
  • Electrical engineering personnel management including recruiting, hiring, development, mentoring, management and training.
  • Manage and oversee staff and outside strategic partners to ensure that projects are completed successfully on time and on budget.
  • Manages resource allocation within department (personnel and equipment).
  • Development of engineering staff members into project managers, account managers, and competent supporting engineering positions.
  • Project management on mid-to-large sized projects.
  • Provide technical and team leadership, as needed, on active projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal mechanical engineering, industrial design, and marketing team managers as well as client contracts across all departments.
  • Participate in annual department planning and strategizing.
  • Assist business development team with sales activities including sales calls, client communications, project budget estimating, proposal writing and closing of contracts.
  • Act as account manager for certain key clients and as client contact on various technical and project management issues.

Qualifications

  • BSME degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 10 years minimum of electrical system design and development experience.
  • 2 years minimum of electrical engineering personnel management experience.
  • Broad experience designing and developing consumer, medical, and/or industrial products.
  • Ideal candidate has extensive experience and technical knowledge in the field of electrical system design from concept to production, including several of the following areas: controls, power, motor controls, various microprocessor platforms including Arduino and Raspberry Pi, battery management, WiFi, Bluetooth, firmware, embedded systems, displays, sensors, and common firmware/software applications.
  • Fast learner with the ability to navigate and implement new technologies and platforms.
  • Experience dealing with contract manufacturers in the US, China, Taiwan, Japan and Mexico.
  • Proven project management experience on medium-to-large scale projects.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Strong presentation and cross-cultural communication skills needed to communicate effectively with all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Engineering consulting experience would be a plus.
  • Proven analytical skills, innovative thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

business development manager

Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility is the closing of commissioned sales from both new and existing accounts.
  • Make contact with client contacts on a daily basis with goal of engaging in new project work from client companies.
  • Set up capabilities presentations with clients’ senior management, engineering, and marketing contacts.
  • Uncover leads for new projects and support work.
  • Lead the development of new accounts as well as the growth of existing accounts.
  • When proposals are requested for new projects, serve as the primary client contact during the development of the initial work estimate, the formal proposal, related negotiations, and initial project work planning (scheduling, etc.)
  • Drafting of the initial work estimate (budget) and proposal for review and collaboration with company managers.
  • Final proofing and submittal of paperwork including contracts to clients with assistance from managers within the company and ensuring that proper paperwork is in place before a project starts.
  • Business development manager will be responsible for the issuance of change orders (amendments), timely payment of open invoices, and the expediting of late payments.
  • Act as an account manager on existing accounts.
  • Support and participate in ongoing marketing, sales, and annual planning activities.
  • Check in with clients as project work progresses and/or sit in on occasional project meetings to ensure that client needs are being met or exceeded.
  • Travel as required to meet with clients at their off-site locations, though a high percentage of the time will be spent in-house on the phone or working on new sales initiatives (planning, phone calls, etc.).
  • Support company marketing efforts, as needed.

Qualifications required:

  • BS/BA degree in a technical field or in business administration. For those with technical degrees, a BSME or BSEE degree would be preferred.
  • 2 years or more of sales experience, preferably in a technical field and preferably in a consulting field.
  • Applicants should also have excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of the new product development process for mechanical and electro-mechanical devices and systems would be preferred.
  • Computer proficiency including the Microsoft Office suite.

Project engineer – mechanical

We are seeking an experienced mechanical project engineer who will lead concurrent mechanical and electro-mechanical product development programs involving new industrial, medical and consumer products anywhere between initial concept and production launch. 

Ideal candidates are talented, innovative and hard-working individuals who prefer to work at a faster pace in an environment where they’ll see a mix of project management and hands-on engineering design work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the engineering design and development of new consumer products, industrial equipment, and medical devices.
  • Project management including the coordination and management of all project activities, budgets, deliverables, deadlines, and team members.
  • Lead client contact on technical and project management issues in a consulting environment.
  • Assists business development managers with sales efforts including proposal writing, budgeting for mechanical engineering projects, and client sales communications.
  • Coordinate project work with project teams including members of our internal technical staff, outside contractors, and client team members.
  • Perform hands-on engineering design work including conceptual design (ideation and brainstorming), calculations, CAD work, tolerance stack-up analysis, problem solving, prototype fabrication, testing, FMEA, DFMA, decision making, risk analysis, etc.

Qualifications

  • BSME or advanced degree from an accredited institution.
  • 7 years minimum of design engineering experience.
  • Proven project management experience successfully managing medium-to-large scale projects through to production and market launch.
  • Knowledge of all common manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, investment casting, machining, stamping, sheet metal, etc.
  • Proven analytical skills, innovative thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft business software (Word, Excel, Project, Windows, etc.).
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience designing products using Creo (Pro/ENGINEER) or SolidWorks software.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems including the Arduino and Raspberry Pi prototype platforms would be a plus.
  • Engineering consulting experience would be a plus.

Sr. mechanical design engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering design and development of new mechanical and electro-mechanical products in various industries including consumer products, industrial equipment, and medical devices.
  • Mechanical design of components, subassemblies and complete products using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks and/or PRO/Engineer CREO software.
  • Assembly of functional engineering and proof-of-concept prototypes, including procurement and inspection of parts, assembly, wiring, testing and debugging.
  • Engineering calculations, design layouts, and tolerance stack-up analyses in support of new product design programs.
  • 3D CAD solid modeling on complex product assemblies.
  • Technical contact for clients on project related technical issues.
  • Participation in project team meetings, discussions, brainstorming sessions, and cooperative design project work as part of rapid product development work.
  • Engineering testing of new concepts, prototypes, and subsystems to test “proof-of-concept” or comparative performance of competing design concepts.

Qualifications:

  • BSME or MSME degree from an accredited institution.
  • 1 – 6 years of design experience with mechanical or electro-mechanical products or student projects with a degree of technical complexity.
  • Project management experience

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate including 3D CAD software experience, preferably SolidWorks or Creo
