Located in Chicago’s historic Fulton Market District, Design Integrity is an award-winning new product consulting firm founded in 1998. Our staff is comprised of engineering, industrial design, marketing, innovation, and new product consulting professionals with a passion for design, problem solving, and outside-the-box thinking.

We provide new product consulting and design services for clients in all phases of new product development from discovery research, definition, innovation, design, and engineering development through production start-up and market launch.

Philip Anthony, P.E. – President

Phil Anthony is the founder and president of Design Integrity. Over his thirty years of engineering and product design experience, Phil has managed, designed, and developed over one hundred innovative new products across industrial, medical, and consumer markets.

Phil earned his BSME from Lehigh University in 1986. He received his MSME from Northwestern University in 1991 and his MBA (Master of Management) from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern in 1997.

Phil has been awarded fourteen US utility patents.  He is a proven innovation facilitator and program manager, and he has served as an expert witness on five cases related to product engineering design, trade secrets, trade secret misappropriation, patent prosecution, and patent litigation.

Aaron Eiger – Partner, Industrial Design

Over his twenty-five year career in design, Aaron has managed, designed, and contributed to dozens of innovative new products that have succeeded in the marketplace. Aaron is a proven innovator and a creative mind. He has been a key collaborator on our ID and engineering programs at DI, and he is an expert with SolidWorks software.

Aaron received his Bachelor of Industrial Design from Syracuse University in 1992. He has been a partner at Design Integrity since 2000.

Scott Rote – Partner, VP of Engineering

During his twenty-eight year career, Scott has worked exclusively in the field of new product design and development. Scott is a world-class project manager, and he has driven several dozen complex engineering programs with seven-to-eight figure budgets to successful production and market launch.

Scott earned his BSME from Marquette University in 1989, and he received his MBA from the Stuart School of Business at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago in 1994.  Scott joined Design Integrity as a partner in 2000.

Mark Kurth – Director of Design

A senior industrial design manager with over thirty years of experience in both corporate and consulting environments, Mark is a proven leader, innovator and educator. Mark received his BFA in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1983. He has been our Director of Design since 2008.

Mark has led or contributed to the development of hundreds of innovative new products over his career. He has taught as an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University, and he is currently a Segal Design Institute affiliate. Mark has several utility and design patents to his name, and he has served as an expert witness on a case related design patent infringement.

Tyler has over twenty years of business development experience in the design and engineering consulting field with a focus on marketing and sales. His primary goal is to establish and manage client relationships across medical, dental, industrial, and consumer market segments.

Tyler received his bachelors degree in 1992 from Illinois State University, and he has been a proven performer with a customer focus throughout his career.

Tammy Balzar – Director of Growth Marketing

Tammy is a marketing and business development executive with over twenty years of experience helping companies to grow their businesses, maximize brands, identify opportunities and drive innovation from both marketing and product development perspectives. Tammy received her bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, and she has eight years of experience as a director-level marketing consultant.

mechanical design engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering design and development of new mechanical and electro-mechanical products in various industries including consumer products, industrial equipment, and medical devices.
  • Mechanical design of components, subassemblies and complete products using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks and/or PRO/Engineer CREO software.
  • Assembly of functional engineering and proof-of-concept prototypes, including procurement and inspection of parts, assembly, wiring, testing and debugging.
  • Engineering calculations, design layouts, and tolerance stack-up analyses in support of new product design programs.
  • 3D CAD solid modeling on complex product assemblies.
  • Technical contact for clients on project related technical issues.
  • Participation in project team meetings, discussions, brainstorming sessions, and cooperative design project work as part of rapid product development work.
  • Engineering testing of new concepts, prototypes, and subsystems to test “proof-of-concept” or comparative performance of competing design concepts.

Qualifications:

  • BSME or MSME degree from an accredited institution.
  • 0 – 3 years of design experience with mechanical or electro-mechanical products or student projects with a degree of technical complexity.
  • Analytical skills, innovative thinking, and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate including some 3D CAD software experience.

Design Integrity is looking for an exceptional entry-level industrial designer – one with a balanced mix of design skills, user empathy, and mechanical know-how. We are an integrated engineering and industrial design consultancy that develops new products for clients in the medical, industrial, and consumer categories.

Responsibilities:

As part of the product development team, you’ll be working collaboratively with other designers and engineers to conceptualize new product ideas and develop them for production. You will participate in all phases of the process through production launch, including: discovery and insights, conceptual design and testing, form development, part design, and prototyping.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Industrial Design, with 0-2 years professional experience
  • Creative mind with strong ideation and brainstorming skills
  • Excellent team collaboration skills
  • Good organizational skills and ability to take direction and work on multiple projects at a time
  • High level sketching and digital rendering skills (2D and 3D)
  • Proficiency in 3D form development
  • Hands-on mechanical skills and ability to fabricate 3D mockups and prototypes
  • 3D solid modeling experience using SolidWorks is preferred
